It’s happening! The wedding is just around the corner, and I am starting to wonder where the time has gone. When we “set the date” over a year ago, it didn’t seem like it’d ever come. November 26, 2016 was some fictional date that I didn’t need to worry about. Well, guess what. It’s almost here!
Last weekend we flew down to Florida to finalize some details with our vendors. Oh the joys of planning a wedding where you no longer live! Anyway, it ended up being a very productive trip. Below are a few things I would definitely do a month out to give yourself some peace of mind.
Have a Venue Walk-Through
The venue we ended up picking required us to do a walk-through 30 days prior to the wedding. At first, this seemed like a major inconvenience, but it ended up being super helpful. Since we now know how many people will be attending, we were able to pick how we wanted to organize the reception, design our head table, and decide where we wanted the guest books, place cards, etc. During the meeting we also confirmed our vendors, linen colors, and timeline. All in all, we left the meeting knowing everyone was on the same page.
Meet with Your Florist
Our florist is an absolute saint. She has been beyond helpful with creating little decorative ideas and even giving us fake rings for the ring bearer to use. Those were a lot harder to find than one would think! It was nice to touch base with her again and be able to provide her with definite information like how many tables there will be, what type of corsages our moms want, and if we needed to get any additional arrangements for things like high top tables, the guest book area, etc.
Have Your “Final” Dress Fitting
I say “final” because when I went to try on my dress for what was supposed to be the last time, it wasn’t ready yet. They still hadn’t hemmed my dress and it needed to be taken in a bit. *Sigh* Thankfully, I tried it on now instead of waiting a few days before the wedding! Unfortunately, this means I have to go straight from the airport…to the alterations store…when I land…3 days before the wedding. It definitely isn’t the end of the world, but I do hope it’s done then!
Get in Touch with Your Wedding DJ
Your DJ sets the tone of your wedding. I HIGHLY suggest you meet with your DJ in person to make sure he or she has the personality that you were looking for. We took a gamble on our DJ because we didn’t meet with ours until now. When you are planning a wedding in a different state, you just have to let go of something and hope they work out! Fingers-crossed, our DJ seems like a normal human being who I am sure will do a great job. It was really helpful to meet with him too because he basically helped us outline the whole reception and pick out our ceremony songs.
Remember the Little Details
At a month out, most of your big decisions have been made. You have a photographer. Check. Caterer. Check. DJ. Check. You get the idea. Now is the time to think about the tiny details that will make your wedding feel like you. While in Florida, we decided to get a little instant camera to set by the guest book. We’re hoping it’s something fun that the guests will enjoy. Also, that means we get extra pictures. Yay! It’s an adorable blue color too, so you know I was all about it! I mean, it does go perfectly with our color scheme!
I hope this gives you a place to start as you wind down on your wedding preparations. Let me know if I am missing anything!
